Layer Cake Sampler QAL Week 6 {Blocks 11 & 12 and giveaway!!}

We’re halfway there!!  If you’ve been able to catch up, you should now have 10 of the 20 blocks completed.  And if you are like me, you’re probably also thinking your design wall isn’t big enough!  It’s clear that when we are done we will all have some nice BIG quilts for our beds 🙂

Here are today’s blocks (and if you need to review the block piecing instructions, just click here.)

Block 11:

Block 11

Block 11 is a fun zig-zag and this time around I used a different layout than my original quilt.  I’m loving the fun stripes in this April Showers line and how they play in the blocks.  Below are a few other options.

Block 11 - 3   Block 11 - 2   Block 11 - 1

Block 12:

Block 12

Block 12 is such a classic looking block.  After I pieced mine and then played around a bit more with the layouts, I really fell in love the middle option below.  Guess I should have played around with the options before I put my block together!

Block 12 - 1    Block 12 - 2    Block 12 - 3

Now it’s your turn, and don’t forget to share your photos if you can on Flickr and Instagram!

Giveaway Time!!!

Let’s have some fun and give away a few prizes to make all of your work even more worth it.  First up is a wonderful prize pack from my good friend Heather of Crimson Tate (my favorite local quilt shop!)  She graciously donated this pretty jelly roll of Nature’s Palette from Free Spirit along with a fun collection of Soak nail polish curated by Sandi Henderson.

  1. Eeek! These are so cute! I am a few weeks behind. I only have 4 blocks completed. Luckily I’m in town this weekend and can spend some time catching up. Thanks for hosting…this has been a lot of fun and I love seeing everyone’s pics 🙂

  2. these look so fun! I am going to have to do these, firstly to help bust my stash as I am on a NO BUY year for fabric…….these blocks will be so fun to do. Thank you for sharing!

  3. I’m having so much fun with these! I’ve finished eight blocks and I’m now working on the next four. I’m using Moda celery for my background and a layer cake of Dreamcatcher Batik for the colors. This quilt will be a gift, but I can see making another for myself in the future. Thanks for giving us so many interesting blocks and variations to play with.

  4. Loving the QAL! Unfortunately, I am not smart enough to figure out how to add my link so I won’t be winning this time! :/

  5. beautiful.Right up there with the Swoon quilt.I thought I was finished with 12 blocks when my husband said it needs four more to fit the bed.Your pattern is next…fabric and thread would get it started sooner, but I have no idea how to download a picture let alone link it somewhere.Stunning blocks,I love the colours.

  6. I am a little behind everything when it comes to this powerful machine.Shall try to put my own name in instead of hotmail..

  7. Love these, but I need mug rugs and a table runner for my new place! Can I submit pic and enter with smaller blocks.. I cut mine @ 5″. I bought some fabric and started cutting and a little sewing last night.. I love the HST method! Its the first time I used that technique!

    • Ok.. mine are way smaller because I don’t need a big quilt right now, mine will end up as mug rugs for the living room.. maybe a mini wall hanging.. and I was late to the party too..I’ve got 6 blocks ready to sew the rows now.. I took my pics and linked them from my nailtechcom pinterest place…

  8. Love the fresh look of this QAL! The possibilities are endless too. Thanks for offering the amazing give away!

  9. I’ve never linked up before, so I hope I did it right! 🙂 Lovely giveaway, thank you for hosting this quilt along! This is my first… I think I may be addicted.
