Moda Bake Shop Basics: Tips for Matching Points

Head over to the Moda Bake Shop today to find my Tips for Matching Points. cover

And if you are visiting from Moda Bake Shop, welcome!  I decided to use the two blocks from the tips tutorial and create throw pillow covers.  The colors in this Tapestry line by Fig Tree & Co. match a dear friend's living room, so they will be going to live at her house :)

pillows

Both of these pillow cover fronts were made using one charm pack.  On the backs I used the extra backing I had from the Windmill quilt.  For the first block I paired charm squares and created pieced rectangle blocks that I then trimmed down into 4 1/2" square blocks.

I really wanted to try out the wiggly line stitching on my Bernina (which is a zig-zag stitch all stretched out!).  With some input from my awesome husband, we came up with this fun cross-hatch design using Aurifil 50wt #5011.  I love the texture it creates!

It's hard to see the details of the quilting with all of the prints, but look how awesome it is on the back!  I am for sure going to have to try this on a solid or more subdued quilt top next time to really showcase those wiggles!

back

For the second block I paired charm squares to create half square triangles and played around with the placement until I came up with this layout.

I then quilted radiating diamonds at varying widths starting from the center.  Simpler quilting for a busier block.

I like how the two pillows go together without "matching" to create an interesting look.

Thanks so much for stopping by, and let me know if you have any questions about my "Tips for Matching Points".
