My New Adventure!

I can hardly believe it has been three months since I started my new "adventure" and opened up Material Girl Quilts!!  Adventure is a good word to describe all that I've been going through/learning since then.  Coming from a family of quilters (my mother and great-grandmother have made hundreds of beautiful quilts!), I couldn't help but fall in love with it myself.  I still remember the first quilt I made about 13 years ago for a friend's new baby.  She loved that quilt so much (and carried it with her wherever she went!) that we had to do numerous repairs over the years until we finally made her a new "big girl" quilt to replace it. I have dreamed of having my own quilt shop for a few years now and I'm lucky enough to have such a supportive husband that we decided to take the "small" leap and go online.  :)  Every day I come across new things that have inspired me (whether it is a gorgeous new fabric line or one of the many inspiring projects I see by the talented quilters I follow through other blogs).

For now this adventure has to remain "part-time" because bills just don't pay themselves. ;-)  My biggest struggle is finding the time to do all of the new things I want to do and try all while trying to maintain a happy home (and keeping the boys fed!).  At the moment I have so many ideas swimming around in my head that I can hardly decide what to make first.  This might also explain the number of unfinished projects in my sewing room.  UGH!

I have created this blog to share my ideas, projects and probably a little about what I will be experiencing with the new business.  Hopefully some day I too can inspire others like me and keep the creative juices flowing.

As a start, I will share photos of my latest "completed" quilt.

This one was for a sweet little baby girl named Gwen.  I used Jenean Morrison's Power Pop fabric line and love how bright and cheery it is!  This fabric is also available through my shop.

I'm not the best with applique, but I just couldn't wait to see this idea come to life and had no other option...HA!  I hope to get better at it with practice.

I quilted this one using what I call the "straightish" lines method :-)

The backing fabric is just the most beautiful shade of aqua.

I simply adore the bow tie fabric on the binding...so cute!

Well, I hope you enjoyed seeing my latest completed project and plan to show you more soon!
