W.I.P. Wednesday {6.20.12}
Is anyone else struggling with finding time to sew this summer? It seems like there is always some place to go or something to do that keeps getting in the way of my sewing time! I'm not really complaining though because I do love summer: watching my son play baseball (the BLACK THUNDER went undefeated this year :-)), hanging out at the pool, time at the parks, cookouts, etc. It almost seems sinful to spend too much time indoors, so I end up sewing mostly at night after the little one is in bed. I have not gotten a lot done this week on "my" sewing (check out my son's quilt here!) but I have made a little progress.
I am caught up on my First Saturday Blocks.
This last one has been my favorite so far, probably because I love the color combo so much.
I also finally received my shop kit for the Women of Courage BOM and completed the first month's blocks. The colors are so warm and even prettier in person.
More information on this BOM can be found here
I still have 3 spots open if you are interested in joining the Women of Courage BOM. The cost is $25.00/month (plus shipping - international members accepted!!) and runs for 12 months. Just email me at amanda@materialgirlquilts.com if you would like to sign up.
Another thing I have accomplished this week is the quilting on this adorable baby quilt that was pieced by my friend's mother before she passed away.
Her appliqué and piecing is so tidy! I almost didn't want to quilt it for fear of messing it up.
I think those animals are just so cute and her embroidery is perfect!
She already had the backing and batting selected. I'm not used to using a polyester batting, it is much "fluffier" than cotton. But that will make it even more wonderful for one of her future great-grand kids who will be lucky enough to receive this wonderful heirloom.
I have decided to make the binding scrappy from some scraps I had in my stash.
I hope the family will be pleased with the end product. It was a pleasure to do the quilting on such a wonderfully made quilt.
One last thing that I was able to get done in the last week involves organizing my sewing room (and finding an awesome table on Craigslist to use as my new sewing table!!). After re-arranging and removing some other furniture, below is my new view from the sewing machine.
This makes me even happier when I sew :-). I will post more about the sewing room re-do once I've made a little more progress.
Don't forget to head over to Freshly Pieced to see what everyone else is working on!
