Ripple {a finished quilt and publication!}
Let me introduce you to Ripple...
I have had this guy sketched out for a year or so and finally was able to put it into fabric :) I love the mix of low volume black and whites and aquas against the striking black sketch background. My son claimed this as his new bed quilt and thankfully he still lets me snuggle in bed with him, because I just love it.
This guy is also featured in the current issue of Make Modern Magazine! It's a great new digital magazine for quilters and this particular issue contains a lot of great patterns, including the amazing Crackle quilt by my crazy talented (and local) quilting friend Amy Garro...seriously, so good and check out that quilting!!
For the quilting on Ripple, Sam requested a spiral starting in the center block and "rippling out" to the edges. Just like when you throw a stone in the water. It's a nice contrast to the sharp edges of the quilt design, but we tease that it will hypnotize him right to sleep. ;-) The thread used was Aurifil 50 wt. #5007 which is a very light aqua/mint and almost gray. It worked perfectly with these mix of prints.
My favorite square in the entire quilt is this one right here..."Happiness", yep, that's what it's all about. And check out the backing fabric he chose. Carolyn Friedlander's Doe fabric line is stellar and this particular print is probably my favorite.
Here is Ripple in his recently re-done room (along with Shoot for the Stars hanging above the bed). He chose the new paint colors and stripe location, etc. I think it turned out great and he loves it so we're calling it a success.
