Schmidtville {a finished quilt!!}

If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, then you’ve already seen several photos of this quilt in progress, but today it’s finally done! Welcome to My Town that I’ve decided to name Schmidtville in honor of the amazing designer of the over 160 different fabrics in this quilt, Denyse Schmidt.

Denyse’s fabrics were the fuel and inspiration I needed in this crazy time to make something that simply brought me JOY!

I sketched the house and tree blocks on April 24th and tested the blocks that same day. My original plan was just to test the blocks and move to another project to get it finished, but after making the test blocks, I just couldn’t stop! I had the quilt top complete with 62 houses and 19 trees on April 29th. I quilted it over the weekend and finished hand stitching the binding on May 4th. It’s so much fun to work on a project you absolutely love! And since we are all “sheltering in place”, what else was I to do on the evenings and weekends, but sew.

I looked through the quilt to try and choose a favorite house, but just can’t do it. I love them all.

I am particularly fond of the blue house with the red door and black roof in the below photo.

And the two aqua prints on the houses below are a couple of my all time favorites!

So is they gray house print in the bottom right corner of this photo, I’ve used that one in several quilts. And you can also get a peek at the fun binding.

Yep, I think I’d live in any of these houses :)

For the back I pulled this orange and a matching aqua print that I’ve had in my stash for years (and again used in numerous projects). It was just enough to piece together for the backing. Another bonus…no trips to the store!

And here is Schmidtville in its new home, the comfy chair corner of my sewing room. This is where my boys will sit when they want to come and hang out with me while I sew.

If you’d like to make a My Town quilt of your own, click here for the block tutorial. And please tag me on social media if you do use the pattern, I’d love to see it! You can also use the hashtag #mytownquilt
