Naughty Nancy Grew Up {a finished baby quilt!}
Okay, I admit the name doesn't seem quite right for a baby quilt, but I can explain! :)
You see this block below? It's from Love Patchwork & Quilting's Issue 15 Block of the Month. This BOM is created by the super talented Lynne Goldsworthy of Lily's Quilts. When I first saw the block I fell in love! I instantly realized I wanted to make it into a one block quilt.
So, I blew it up a bit and made it into a baby quilt for my good friend Sarah who's expecting her second bundle of joy this winter. Sarah is a big fan of Oakshott cottons and I happened to have a couple of fat eighth bundles just waiting to be opened up. I chose two of the blues that were very close to each other in value along with the lightest shade of green. The baby's sex will be a surprise, so I wanted to keep the quilt fairly neutral. I know blue and green are typically boy colors, but if you know anything about me, they are my favorites...and hey, I'm a girl! I also think they work perfectly with the background fabric which is from Carolyn Friedlander's Botanic's line.
For the quilting I wanted to keep it simple and not too dense so that it will remain nice and snuggly for baby. I followed the lines in the block and quilted a large cross-hatch using Aurifil 50 wt. 2600. I think it compliments the design nicely.
I chose a white with tiny baby blue dots and stars for the binding and it seems to finish it off well.
But I ADORE the back :) I mean just look at those cute little caterpillars! So sweet (and if you are interested in this fabric, I still have some in stock here).
What a fun little quilt this was to make. It finishes at 32" square and each half square triangle finishes at 4". I was hoping to make it 36" finished, but my Oakshott cuts weren't quite big enough for that. Still I think this is the perfect size to throw over a car seat and into a diaper bag to carry along for tummy time at play dates :)
