Wave Your Flag Placemats {Just in time for the 4th of July!}

A couple of weeks ago I received a newsletter from the Fat Quarter Shop with a some patriotic quilt projects and instantly fell in love with their Wave Your Flag table runner. The runner is so cute and includes some pieced stars between the flags, but I didn’t have a need for a new table runner and instead decided to make flag placemats.

All of the fabrics I used for these placemats were pulled from my scrap bins or stash.

I just love the pattern design to make the flags “wave” and decided to add to that feel by doing wavy lines for the quilting.

I also love how the blue and white print looks on the binding. It finishes them off perfectly.

Here they are on our kitchen table ready for an Independence Day celebration tomorrow.

If you’d like to make your own flag placemats or table runner, the Fat Quarter Shop’s table runner pattern can be found here. To create the placemat, I simply pieced the flag as instructed in the pattern and then added 2” x 10 1/2” rectangles on the sides and then 2” x 17 1/2” rectangles on the top and bottom to finish them off.

To all of you in the States, I hope you enjoy your holiday with loved ones.

Amanda
