Fat Quarter Plus Quilt Tutorial {perfect for beginners!!}
This tropical looking beauty is warming up my day here in Indiana where it is currently only 20 degrees!! I love all of the bright and bold colors of this fabric. I thought it would be great for a simple plus patchwork design.
Plus quilts are very easy to make - simple square patchwork, but by placing them in the plus formations, it gives your simple patchwork a fun and sleek design.
For this quilt, I used a gorgeous fat quarter bundle from Crimson Tate - Reverie by Melody Miller of Ruby Star Society.
Dark teal is one of my favorite colors, so I chose the Spark print in “Mermaid” for the binding to set off all of the gorgeous bold prints inside the quilt top.
For the quilting, I used a new to me pantograph design called Mix it Up designed by Julie Hirt. I love the variety in the quilting design and think it creates a fun movement across the quilt.
For the backing fabric, I chose the Verdant print in Galaxy. I always love a larger scale print on quilt backs. It’s a great way to showcase gorgeous fabrics.
My quilt finishes at 64” x 76” and was made using 20 fat quarters. This pattern is easily adjustable in size by adjusting the number of fat quarters used.
~ Material Requirements ~
20 fat quarters for quilt top
4 yards backing fabric
1/2 yard binding fabric
Sewing machine - I use the Elna eXcellence 780+
I have created a FREE printable pattern that includes a couple of other size options as well. You can download the pattern here.
