Quarter Stack {a FREE fat quarter quilt pattern and tutorial!}
Who doesn’t love a good fat quarter quilt pattern? I certainly do and the Quarter Stack quilt is a great beginner friendly pattern that all levels of quilters will enjoy making. One of the best things about this quilt is how easy it is to change up the finished size based on your number of fat quarters!
I love the “scrappy” look of this quilt which is so easy to accomplish when you purchase a fat quarter bundle from your favorite quilt shop (my favorite local shop Crimson Tate always has fun FQ bundles - and they sell online as well!)
The above quilt was made using a new fabric collection coming to shops this month called Daybreak, which is Fran Gulick’s (Cotton and Joy) first fabric collection with Riley Blake Designs! I used 23 fat quarters from the bundle to make this quilt that finishes at 80” square.
I first came up with this pattern years ago when I made this holiday inspired version using 13 fat quarters from a bundle and finishing at 60” square.
As you can probably tell from the photo, this one has been well loved and used regularly on the sofa in our living room. Lord only knows how many times this quilt has been washed, but it’s hanging in there and still beautiful today!
I just placed this new one on our guest bed and love how springy it looks! With the winter storm hitting our neck of the woods this week, I needed all of the spring inspiration I could muster to get through ;-)
As I stated above, you can make this quilt in lots of sizes depending on how many fat quarters you want to use. I share a number of those size options in the video tutorial below as well as the printable PDF pattern.

As a bonus this month, I’m giving away a fat quarter bundle of the new Daybreak collection over on Instagram. Head there for your chance to win!
