2021 Temperature Quilt {a finished quilt top!!}

I had some catching up to do on my temperature quilt this month, but I have finally been able to complete the quilt top and am so pleased with how it turned out!

You can find out more details on my process and plan for this quilt in my previous blog post - here.

One of the questions I get asked the most is how much of each fabric did I purchase? When I started, I bought 1/2 yard each of the fabrics for the extreme temperature ranges (for my location) and 3/4 yard for the remaining fabrics. I did need to order a bit more of 3 different fabrics when I realized I was about out (as you can imagine from the photo, those fabrics were yellows and greens). If you are going to follow my plan for your own temperature quilt, you may want to order 1 yard of the 3-4 most common temp ranges for your location to be safe.

I will say that for those extreme temps in my area, 1/2 yard was way more than I needed and I could have easily gotten away with 1/4 yard for some of these fabrics. It all just depends on the weather in your location (and mother nature of course!) ;-). But if you’d rather be safe than sorry, get at least 1/2 yard of each.

I am so glad I opted to do half square triangles for my temperature quilt. I think the angles help to give the quilt depth and movement.

The solid squares throughout the quilt mark the start of a new month. With this layout, it left space for 3 solid squares at the end where I decided to applique the year.

The numbers are currently raw edge appliqued with a fusible backing. I will likely also stitch them down once I find the perfect matching thread.

Now I just need to find a fun and colorful fabric for the backing - any suggestions?!?
