Duplicity Quilt Tutorial
I have been eyeing the beautiful woven fabrics created by Fableism for a while now and when I first saw the Forest Forage collection, I knew I had to get some! Daisies have always been my favorite flower and these woven daisies mixed with the woven honeycomb textured fabrics is a perfect combination.
I selected 16 of the fat quarters from this bundle to create the Duplicity quilt. I love a design that uses up almost the entirety of the fat quarters and doesn’t need any additional fabric to piece the quilt top. It’s kind of a pet peeve when a “fat quarter” pattern only has you using about 1/2 of each fat quarter to make the quilt. It seems like such a waste to me! I can promise you that there is very little fabric left over from each fat quarter when you use this pattern.
The blocks in this quilt are made up entirely of half square triangles. And you’ll notice that the design of the block mirrors itself and that is where I came up with the name Duplicity. I’ll be honest with you…naming quilt patterns is not always a fun task! It can be so hard to come up with a cute or clever name that (hopefully) hasn’t already been widely used. I think Duplicity is a good one though.
These woven fabrics are soft and luxurious to touch and they also have a lovely drape to them. For each block I paired a honeycomb with a daisy. You will get 2 blocks out of 2 paired fat quarters, so I decided to create the second block from each pairing with the colors in the opposite location within the block (in other words, the light or dark fabrics will be the X shape in the center of one block and the surrounding Z type shape in the second block). You can see what I mean in the photo below of the purple and teal blocks.
For the quilting, I used this adorable Daisy design that I’ve had waiting for the perfect quilt. Isn’t it so cute?!?
I also think this pattern would look fantastic in all solids. I can imagine some beautiful contrasting color combinations that would look so striking.
With the way this pattern is written, it is very easy to adjust the size of the quilt to suit your needs. The version I created finishes at 56” square, but you can make it whatever size you’d like. Just remember that you can get 2 blocks out of 2 fat quarters. I explain a bit more in the video tutorial below.

I happen to have 12 fat quarters left over from this beautiful bundle and I’d love to give them to one of YOU! For a chance to win these fat quarters, simply leave a comment below letting me known if you’ve sewn with Fableism or other woven fabrics before and if so what you think about them. If you haven’t sewn with them yet, let me know you’d love to make with these fat quarters.
