Layer Cake Quilt Patterns

I’m a big fan of pre-cut quilt fabric. For one, most of the cutting is already done for you and two, it also allows you to get a little bit of each fabric from a collection. This gives you great variety in prints and helps to ensure your fabrics will all coordinate.

Layer Cakes (or pre-cut 10” squares) are a probably my favorite pre-cut to use in quilt patterns. I’ve assembled TWELVE of my favorite layer projects here to give you plenty of inspiration on creating with these 10” squares.

The Honey Cakes pattern uses cute checkerboard like blocks that finish at 18” and are made using a quick/efficient piecing method. The best part is that this pattern includes FIVE different quilt sizes, so you can easily find one to suit your needs.

Paparazzi is a bold beauty that comes together so quickly because there is no additional cutting necessary, just piecing of half square triangles and then trimming them up. Using half square triangles provides numerous different layout options for your blocks and the pattern includes FIVE different quilt sizes!

Tango has been one of my most popular patterns in the past couple of years. I have seen this one made up in so many different fabrics and it looks beautiful in all of them!

The Kansas Dugout quilt is a great design that is traditionally made using the english paper piecing method, but I show you how to create this beautiful quilt using your sewing machine (for a much quicker finish!!). You could also use charm packs or pre-cut 5” squares for this quilt.

Square Chain is a fun twist on the traditional Irish chain quilt design. This pattern lets you showcase the beautiful prints included in your layer cake without having to cut them up.

Stack ‘Em Up is another quilt pattern that allows you to showcase your fabrics. This modern layout and design is a great pattern option for the favorite guys in your life.

This Star Chain pattern is another fan favorite! I’ve seen this one made up in many different fabrics and colorways and they are all beautiful. The pattern offers two finished quilt sizes, 72” square or 60” x 84”.

The Daydreams quilt is such a fun and striking design. This throw size is made with pre-cut 10” squares, but there is also a mini quilt size that uses 5” squares.

Windmill is a beautiful quilt design that is made with two layer cakes (1 background and 1 with prints). The half square triangles create a fun windmill design and the pattern includes TWO size options.

The Square Dance quilt is a great beginner friendly quilt pattern using simple patchwork that creates a beautiful quilt. The finished size is 51” x 60”.

Triangle Parade uses 2 different layer cakes to create a beautifully scrappy look without having to pull from your scraps! An added bonus, you can finish your quilt with either angled or squared corners.

The Layer Cake Sampler is such a fun pattern where each block has numerous layout options! You will use 2 layer cakes (1 print and 1 background) to make a total of 20 sampler blocks.

I hope these patterns help inspire you to get open up those layer cakes and sew them into something you’ll treasure for years to come!

Thanks for stopping by,

Amanda
